This page deals with contradictions in the Qur'an. Contents
AllahWhere is Allah? On a royal chair He it is Who created the heavens and the
earth in
six Days; then He mounted the Throne. He knoweth all that entereth the
earth and all that emergeth therefrom and all that cometh down from the
sky and all that ascendeth therein; and He is with you wheresoever ye
may be. And Allah is Seer of what ye do.
And He it is Who created the heavens and the
earth in six Days - and
His Throne was upon the water - that He might try you, which of you is
best in conduct. Yet if thou (O Muhammad) sayest: Lo! ye will be raised
again after death! those who disbelieve will surely say: This is naught
but mere magic.
Everywhere To Allah belong the east and the West:
Whithersoever ye turn, there is
the presence of Allah. For Allah is all-Pervading, all-Knowing.
His home, the Ka'aba O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring
to dwell in a valley
without cultivation, by Thy Sacred House; in order, O our Lord, that
they may establish regular Prayer: so fill the hearts of some among men
with love towards them, and feed them with fruits: so that they may
give thanks.
Nearby When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am
indeed close (to them): I
listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me: Let them
also, with a will, Listen to My call, and believe in Me: That they may
walk in the right way.
We verily created man and We know what his
soul whispereth to him, and
We are nearer to him than his jugular vein
Is Allah the only protector?Yes Yes Surely Allah's is the kingdom of the heavens
and the earth; He brings
to life and causes to die; and there is not for you besides Allah any
Guardian or Helper.
Yes Do then those who disbelieve think that they
can take My slaves [i.e.,
the angels, God's Messengers, 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary),
etc.] as Auliyâ' (lords, gods, protectors, etc.) besides Me? Verily, We
have prepared Hell as an entertainment for the disbelievers
No, angels too We are your guardians in this world's life
and in the hereafter, and
you shall have therein what your souls desire and you shall have
therein what you ask for
No Your guardian can be only Allah; and His
messenger and those who
believe, who establish worship and pay the poordue, and bow down (in
prayer).
No The Believers, men and women, are protectors
one of another: they
enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil: they observe regular
prayers, practise regular charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. On
them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is Exalted in power, Wise. .
Is Allah the only ruler and commander?Yes Say: "Allah knows best how long they stayed:
with Him is (the knowledge
of) the secrets of the heavens and the earth: how clearly He sees, how
finely He hears (everything)! They have no protector other than Him;
nor does He share His Command with any person whatsoever.
Yes And say: 'Praise belongs to Allah, who has
not taken to Him a son, and
who has not any associate in the Kingdom, nor any protector out of
humbleness.' And magnify Him with all the magnificence.
Yes It is not (possible) that a man, to whom is
given
the Book, and Wisdom, and the prophetic office, should say to people:
"Be ye my worshippers rather than Allah's": on the contrary (He would
say) "Be ye worshippers of Him Who is truly the Cherisher of all: For
ye have taught the Book and ye have studied it earnestly." Nor would he
instruct you to take angels and prophets for Lords and patrons. What!
would he bid you to unbelief after ye have bowed your will (To Allah in
Islam?)
Yes Say: "Shall we indeed call on others besides
Allah,- things that can do us neither good nor harm,- and turn on our
heels after receiving guidance from Allah? - like one whom the evil
ones have made into a fool, wandering bewildered through the earth, his
friends calling, come to us', (vainly) guiding him to the path." Say:
"Allah's guidance is the (only) guidance, and we have been directed to
submit ourselves to the Lord of the worlds;
No O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the
Messenger, and those charged
with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves,
refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe in Allah and the
Last Day: That is best, and most suitable for final determination.
No Say: 'O Allah, Master of the Kingdom, Thou
givest the Kingdom to whom
Thou wilt, and seizest the Kingdom from whom Thou wilt, Thou exaltest
whom Thou wilt, and Thou abasest whom Thou wilt; in Thy hand is the
good; Thou art powerful over everything.
No When thy Lord drew forth from the Children of
Adam
- from their loins - their descendants, and made them testify
concerning themselves, (saying): "Am I not your Lord (who cherishes and
sustains you)?"- They said: "Yea! We do testify!" (This), lest ye
should say on the Day of Judgment: "Of this we were never mindful":
No, you must serve Muhammed But thy people reject this, though it is the
truth. Say: "Not mine is the responsibility for arranging your affairs
No, Whomever obey's Muhammed also obeys Allah O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the
Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in
anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if ye
do believe in Allah and the Last Day: That is best, and most suitable
for final determination.
So establish regular Prayer and give regular
Charity; and obey the Messenger; that ye may receive mercy.
No, Muhammad also shares Allah’s ability to forgive sinners We sent not a messenger, but to be obeyed, in
accordance with the will
of Allah. If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come
unto thee and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked
forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning,
Most Merciful. But no, by the Lord, they can have no (real) Faith,
until they make thee judge in all disputes between them, and find in
their souls no resistance against Thy decisions, but accept them with
the fullest conviction
Can Allah be seen?No No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is
over all vision: He is above all comprehension, yet is acquainted with
all things.
Yes It is not fitting for a man that Allah should
speak
to him except by inspiration, or from behind a veil, or by the sending
of a messenger to reveal, with Allah's permission, what Allah wills:
for He is Most High, Most Wise
Yes I swear by the star when it goes down.Your
companion does not err, nor does he go astray; Nor does he speak out of
desire. It is naught but revelation that is revealed, The Lord of
Mighty Power has taught him, The Lord of Strength; so he attained
completion, And he is in the highest part of the horizon. Then he drew
near, then he bowed. So he was the measure of two bows or closer still.
And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. The heart was not
untrue in (making him see) what he saw. What! do you then dispute with
him as to what he saw? And certainly he saw him in another descent, At
the farthest lote-tree; Near which is the garden, the place to be
resorted to. When that which covers covered the lote-tree; The eye did
not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. Certainly he saw of the
greatest signs of his Lord.
Could Allah have a son?Yes If Allah had willed to choose a son, He could have chosen what He would of that which He hath created. Be He Glorified! He is Allah, the One, the Absolute. No Wonderful Originator of the heavens and the earth; How can He have a son when He has no consort? He created all things, and He hath full knowledge of all thingsIs it possible to have a son without a consort?Yes She said: "How shall I have a son, seeing
that no
man has touched me, and I am not unchaste?" He said: "So (it will be):
Thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: and (We wish) to appoint him as a
Sign unto men and a Mercy from Us':It is a matter (so) decreed."
No To Him is due the primal origin of the
heavens and
the earth: How can He have a son when He hath no consort? He created
all things, and He hath full knowledge of all things.
Is Allah omniscient?Yes Say: Do you instruct Allah about your
religion? But Allah knows all
that is in the heavens and on the earth; Allah is Knowing of all
things.
No, Allah needs to test you to know Be sure we shall test you with something of
fear and hunger, some loss
in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings
to those who patiently persevere,
Can only Allah see the unseen?Yes They say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him
from his Lord?" Say: "The
Unseen is only for Allah (to know), then wait ye: I too will wait with
you."
No, Solomon can too Said an 'Ifrit, of the Jinns: "I will bring
it to thee before thou rise
from thy council: indeed I have full strength for the purpose, and may
be trusted."
Does Allah lead people astray? No And Allah will not mislead a people after He
hath guided them, in order
that He may make clear to them what to fear (and avoid)- for Allah hath
knowledge of all things.
Yes Of them there are some who (pretend to)
listen to thee; but We have
thrown veils on their hearts, So they understand it not, and deafness
in their ears; if they saw every one of the signs, not they will
believe in them; in so much that when they come to thee, they (but)
dispute with thee; the Unbelievers say: "These are nothing but tales of
the ancients."
Is Allah similar to anyone or anything? No Yes, face Yes, eyes Saying: Put him into a chest, then cast it
down into the river, then
the river shall throw him on the shore; there shall take him up one who
is an enemy to Me and enemy to him, and I cast down upon you love from
Me, and that you might be brought up before My eyes
Yes, hands The Jews say: "Allah's hand is tied up." Be
their hands tied up and be
they accursed for the (blasphemy) they utter. Nay, both His hands are
widely outstretched: He giveth and spendeth (of His bounty) as He
pleaseth. But the revelation that cometh to thee from Allah increaseth
in most of them their obstinate rebellion and blasphemy. Amongst them
we have placed enmity and hatred till the Day of Judgment. Every time
they kindle the fire of war, Allah doth extinguish it; but they (ever)
strive to do mischief on earth. And Allah loveth not those who do
mischief.
Yes, hands (Allah) said: "O Iblis! What prevents thee
from prostrating thyself to
one whom I have created with my hands? Art thou haughty? Or art thou
one of the high (and mighty) ones?
Yes, hands And they esteem not Allah as He hath the
right to be esteemed, when the
whole earth is His handful on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens
are rolled in His right hand. Glorified is He and High Exalted from all
that they ascribe as partner (unto Him).
Yes, legs The Day that the shin shall be laid bare, and
they shall be summoned to
bow in adoration, but they shall not be able.
Yes, sits down And the angels will be on the sides thereof,
and eight will uphold the
Throne of thy Lord that day, above them.
Is Allah kind and merciful?Yes No Those who reject our Signs, We shall soon
cast into the Fire: as often
as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for fresh
skins, that they may taste the penalty: for Allah is Exalted in Power,
Wise.
Does Allah speak directly with people? No It is not fitting for a man that Allah should
speak to him except by
inspiration, or from behind a veil,
Yes, to Muhammad Yes, to an ordinary person Yes, to Adam We said: "Get ye down, all (ye people), with
enmity between yourselves.
On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood
yes, to Moses Of some messengers We have already told thee
the story; of others We
have not;- and to Moses Allah spoke direct
Does Allah forgive everything?Yes Say: "O my Servants who have transgressed
against their souls! Despair
not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is
Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
No Allah forgiveth not (The sin of) joining
other gods with Him; but He
forgiveth whom He pleaseth other sins than this: one who joins other
gods with Allah, Hath strayed far, far away (from the right)
Does Allah forgive worshipping other gods/shirk?No Allah forgiveth not that partners should be
set up with Him; but He
forgiveth anything else, to whom He pleaseth; to set up partners with
Allah is to devise a sin Most heinous indeed.
No Allah forgiveth not (the sin of) joining
other gods with Him; but He
forgiveth whom He pleaseth other sins than this: one who joins other
gods with Allah, Hath strayed far, far away (from the right).
Yes The people of the Book ask thee to cause a
book to descend to them from
heaven: Indeed they asked Moses for an even greater (miracle), for they
said: "Show us Allah in public," but they were dazed for their
presumption, with thunder and lightning. Yet they worshipped the calf
even after clear signs had come to them; even so we forgave them; and
gave Moses manifest proofs of authority
Yes Unless he repents, believes, and works
righteous deeds, for Allah will
change the evil of such persons into good, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving,
Most Merciful,
How long is Allah's day?One thousand years Yet they ask thee to hasten on the
Punishment! But Allah will not fail
in His Promise. Verily a Day in the sight of thy Lord is like a
thousand years of your reckoning.
Fifty thousand years The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in
a Day the measure whereof
is (as) fifty thousand years:
Angels and DemonsCan angels walk the earth? No Say, "If there were settled, on earth, angels
walking about in peace
and quiet, We should certainly have sent them down from the heavens an
angel for a messenger."
Yes ...and such things as came down at babylon to
the angels Harut and
Marut. But neither of these taught anyone (Such things) without saying:
"We are only for trial; so do not blaspheme." They learned from them
the means to sow discord between man and wife. But they could not thus
harm anyone except by Allah's permission...
Yes So travel with thy household in a portion of
the night, and follow thou
their backs. Let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are
commanded.
Can angels guard or protect? No Knowest thou not that to Allah belongeth the
dominion of the heavens
and the earth? And besides Him ye have neither patron nor helper
Yes "We are your protectors in this life and in
the Hereafter: therein
shall ye have all that your souls shall desire; therein shall ye have
all that ye ask for!
How many angels helped Muhammad at Badr?Three thousand Remember thou saidst to the Faithful: "Is it
not enough for you that
Allah should help you with three thousand angels (Specially) sent down?
One thousand Remember ye implored the assistance of your
Lord, and He answered you:
"I will assist you with a thousand of the angels, ranks on ranks."
Allah does not send angels near disbelievers We send not down the angels save with the
Fact, and in that case (the
disbelievers) would not be tolerated.
Does Satan mislead devout Muslims?Yes He said: "Because thou hast thrown me out of
the way, lo! I will lie in
wait for them on thy straight way:
No Was Iblis an Angel or a Jinn?Jinn Behold! We said to the angels, "Bow down to
Adam": They bowed down
except Iblis. He was one of the Jinns, and he broke the Command of his
Lord. Will ye then take him and his progeny as protectors rather than
Me? And they are enemies to you! Evil would be the exchange for the
wrong-doers!
Angel And behold, We said to the angels: "Bow down
to Adam" and they bowed
down. Not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty: He was of those who
reject Faith
Where are the Jinn?On earth and cannot get into space O ye assembly of Jinns and men! If it be ye
can pass beyond the zones
of the heavens and the earth, pass ye! not without authority shall ye
be able to pass!
In space and cannot get to earth We have indeed decked the lower heaven with
beauty (in) the stars,-
(For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil
spirits,
CreationWhich was created first; Universe or Earth?Universe Earth He placed therein firm hills rising above it,
and blessed it and
measured therein its sustenance in four Days, alike for (all) who ask;
Then turned He to the heaven when it was
smoke, and said unto it and
unto the earth: Come both of you, willingly or loth. They said: We
come, obedient.
Earth He it is Who created for you all that is in
the earth. Then turned He
to the heaven, and fashioned it as seven heavens. And He is knower of
all things.
Heaven and Earth came apart or together?Together (universe contracting) Moreover He comprehended in His design the
sky, and it had been (as)
smoke: He said to it and to the earth: "Come ye together, willingly or
unwillingly." They said: "We do come (together), in willing obedience.
Apart (universe expanding) Have not those who disbelieve known that the
heavens and the earth were
of one piece, then We parted them, and we made every living thing of
water? Will they not then believe?
How long did it take Allah to create heaven and earth?6 days Verily your Lord is Allah, who created the
heavens
and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of
authority), regulating and governing all things. No intercessor (can
plead with Him) except after His leave (hath been obtained). This is
Allah your Lord; Him therefore serve ye: will ye not receive
admonition?
8 days Say: Is it that ye deny Him Who created the earth in two Days? And do ye join equals with Him? He is the Lord of (all) the Worlds. He placed therein firm hills rising above it, and blessed it and measured therein its sustenance in four Days, alike for (all) who ask; Then He ordained them seven heavens in two Days and inspired in each heaven its mandate; and We decked the nether heaven with lamps, and rendered it inviolable. That is the measuring of the Mighty, the KnowerWhat was Man created from?Dust The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as
that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: "Be". And he
was.
Nothing Clay Sperm He has created man from a sperm-drop; and
behold this same (man) becomes an open disputer!
Blood clot Water Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens
and the earth were joined
together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We
made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?
How long does it take Allah to create?Long time Your Guardian-Lord is Allah, Who created the
heavens and the earth in
six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority): He
draweth the night as a veil o'er the day, each seeking the other in
rapid succession: He created the sun, the moon, and the stars, (all)
governed by laws under His command. Is it not His to create and to
govern? Blessed be Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds!
Instant The Originator of the heavens and the earth!
When He decreeth a thing,
He saith unto it only: Be! and it is.
Day of JudgementHow many trumpets will be blown on Qiyamah? Two One only What happens to mountains on Qiyamah?Become like wool They will disappear Will disbelievers speak on Qiyamah? No And the Word will be fulfilled against them,
because of their
wrong-doing, and they will be unable to speak
Yes That Day shall We set a seal on their mouths.
But their hands will
speak to us, and their feet bear witness, to all that they did.
Where do disbelievers receive their record book on Judgment day?On their back On the left hand And he that will be given his Record in his
left hand, will say: "Ah!
Would that my Record had not been given to me!
EvilDoes evil come from Allah?Yes .... If some good befalls them, they say
"This is from Allah". But if
evil, they say "This is from thee" (O prophet). Say: "All things are
from Allah....
No Whatever good, (O man!) happens to thee, is
from Allah. But whatever
evil happens to thee, is from thyself. But what has come to these
people. That they fail to understand a single fact
Does Allah command evil or not?The Qur'an in the following verses says Allah will not command indecency or evil When they do aught that is shameful, they
say: "We
found our fathers doing so"; and "Allah commanded us thus": Say: "Nay,
Allah never commands what is shameful: do ye say of Allah what ye know
not?"
Allah commands justice, the doing of good,
and
liberality to kith and kin, and He forbids all shameful deeds, and
injustice and rebellion: He instructs you, that ye may receive
admonition.
This is because your Lord would not destroy
towns unjustly while their people were negligent.
But contradicts himself when he says he commands abomination And when We would destroy a township We send
commandment to its folk who live at ease, and afterward they commit
abomination therein, and so the Word (of doom) hath effect for it, and
we annihilate it with complete annihilation.
MagicMoses instructed by Allah to do magic They said: "O Moses! whether wilt thou that
thou throw (first) or that
we be the first to throw?"
Magic is evil Are animals evil?Yes lready have We urged unto hell many of the
jinn and humankind, having
hearts wherewith they understand not, and having eyes wherewith they
see not, and having ears wherewith they hear not. These are as the
cattle - nay, but they are worse! These are the neglectful.
Yes So when they took pride in that which they
had been forbidden, We said
unto them: Be ye apes despised and loathed!
No Seest thou not that to Allah bow down in
worship all things that are in
the heavens and on earth,- the sun, the moon, the stars; the hills, the
trees, the animals; and a great number among mankind? But a great
number are (also) such as are fit for Punishment: and such as Allah
shall disgrace,- None can raise to honour: for Allah carries out all
that He wills.
Heaven and HellWhen do people come back to life?On the appointed Hour (Day of Judgement) And verily the Hour will come: there can be
no doubt about it, or about
(the fact) that Allah will raise up all who are in the graves.
Immediately after their death Think not of those, who are slain in the way
of Allah, as dead. Nay,
they are living. With their Lord they have provision.
Is there heaven and hell only?Yes Verily Allah will admit those who believe and
do righteous deeds, to
Gardens beneath which rivers flow; while those who reject Allah will
enjoy (this world) and eat as cattle eat; and the Fire will be their
abode.
No, purgatory too Between them is a veil. And on the Heights
are men who know them all by
their marks. And they call unto the dwellers of the Garden: Peace be
unto you! They enter it not although they hope (to enter).
Is intercession possible? No Then guard yourselves against a-Day when one
soul shall not avail
another, nor shall compensation be accepted from her nor shall
intercession profit her nor shall anyone be helped (from outside).
No O children of Israel! call to mind My favor
which I bestowed on you and
that I made you excel the nations. And be on your guard against a day
when one soul shall not avail another in the least, neither shall
intercession on its behalf be accepted, nor shall any compensation be
taken from it, nor shall they be helped.
Yes On that Day shall no intercession avail
except for those for whom
permission has been granted by (Allah) Most Gracious and whose word is
acceptable to Him.
Yes Verily your Lord is Allah, who created the
heavens and the earth in six
days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority),
regulating and governing all things. No intercessor (can plead with
Him) except after His leave (hath been obtained). This is Allah your
Lord; Him therefore serve ye: will ye not receive admonition
Width of garden; 1 heaven or plural heavens?More than one heaven (plural, samawaat) a Garden whose width is that (of the whole)
of the heavens and the
earth, prepared for the righteous
Only one heaven (singular, sama) a Garden (of Bliss), the width whereof is as
the width of the heaven
and the earth, prepared for those who believe in Allah
Who will men be with in paradise? With their wives from Earth With heavenly virgins They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of
dignity) arranged in
ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and
lustrous eyes.
Do all Muslims go to hell for some time?Yes Not one of you but will pass over it: this
is, with thy Lord, a Decree
which must be accomplished.Afterwards he may save some of the pious,
God-fearing Muslims out of the burning fire
No Verily Allah will admit those who believe and
do righteous deeds, to
Gardens beneath which rivers flow; while those who reject Allah will
enjoy (this world) and eat as cattle eat; and the Fire will be their
abode
No And if ye are slain, or die, in the way of Allah, forgiveness and mercy from Allah are far better than all they could amass. And if ye die, or are slain, Lo! it is unto Allah that ye are brought together. Will non-Muslims go to hell forever? Not necessarily One day will He gather them all together,
(and say): "O ye assembly of
Jinns! Much (toll) did ye take of men." Their friends amongst men will
say: "Our Lord! we made profit from each other: but (alas!) we reached
our term - which thou didst appoint for us." He will say: "The Fire be
your dwelling-place: you will dwell therein for ever, except as Allah
willeth." for thy Lord is full of wisdom and knowledge.
Not necessarily Those who are wretched shall be in the Fire:
There will be for them
therein (nothing but) the heaving of sighs and sobs: They will dwell
therein for all the time that the heavens and the earth endure, except
as thy Lord willeth: for thy Lord is the (sure) accomplisher of what He
planneth. And those who are blessed shall be in the Garden: They will
dwell therein so long for all the time that the heavens and the earth
endure, except as thy Lord willeth: a gift without break
Not eternal (Huqb is seventy or eighty years, and every day of it is like one thousand years according to your reckoning in this life—ibn Kathir) Yes And those who followed shall say: Had there
been
for us a return, then we would renounce them as they have renounced us.
Thus will Allah show them their deeds to be intense regret to them, and
they shall not come forth from the fire
Yes Such is the requital of the enemies of
Allah,- the Fire: therein will
be for them the Eternal Home: a (fit) requital, for that they were wont
to reject Our Signs
Will Jesus burn in Hell?Yes, because he is worshipped as God by Christians Lo! ye (idolaters) and that which ye worship
beside Allah are fuel of
hell. Thereunto ye will come. If these had been gods they would not
have come thither, but all will abide therein.
No Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah
giveth thee glad tidings of a
Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in
honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those
nearest to Allah;
What will be the food in hell?Only thorns/ dhari Only pus Also zaqqum, hell fruit MankindWhat is the purpose of mankind?Only to worship Allah Also to pursue the habits/sunnah of Muhammad Say: "O men! I am sent unto you all, as the
Messenger of Allah, to Whom
belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth: there is no god
but He: it is He That giveth both life and death. So believe in Allah
and His Messenger, the Unlettered Prophet, who believeth in Allah and
His words: follow him that (so) ye may be guided."
Are all human races considered equal? No Allah did choose Adam and Noah, the family of
Abraham, and the family
of 'Imran above all people,
No Children of Israel! call to mind the
(special) favour which I bestowed
upon you, and that I preferred you to all other (for My Message).
Yes O people, we created you from the same male
and female, and rendered
you distinct peoples and tribes, that you may recognize one another.
The best among you in the sight of GOD is the most righteous. GOD is
Omniscient, Cognizant.
Does everyone bear his own burden?Yes Say: "Shall I seek for (my) Cherisher other
than Allah, when He is the
Cherisher of all things (that exist)? Every soul draws the meed of its
acts on none but itself: no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of
another. Your goal in the end is towards Allah: He will tell you the
truth of the things wherein ye disputed."
Yes Nor can a bearer of burdens bear another's
burdens if one heavily laden
should call another to (bear) his load. Not the least portion of it can
be carried (by the other). Even though he be nearly related. Thou canst
but admonish such as fear their Lord unseen and establish regular
Prayer. And whoever purifies himself does so for the benefit of his own
soul; and the destination (of all) is to Allah.
Yes On no soul doth Allah Place a burden greater
than it can bear. It gets
every good that it earns, and it suffers every ill that it earns.
(Pray:) "Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget or fall into error; our
Lord! Lay not on us a burden Like that which Thou didst lay on those
before us; Our Lord! Lay not on us a burden greater than we have
strength to bear. Blot out our sins, and grant us forgiveness. Have
mercy on us. Thou art our Protector; Help us against those who stand
against faith."
No Let them bear, on the Day of Judgment, their
own burdens in full, and
also (something) of the burdens of those without knowledge, whom they
misled. Alas, how grievous the burdens they will bear!
No When it is said to them, "Believe in what
Allah Hath sent down, "they
say, "We believe in what was sent down to us:" yet they reject all
besides, even if it be Truth confirming what is with them. Say: "Why
then have ye slain the prophets of Allah in times gone by, if ye did
indeed believe?"
No Allah has certainly heard the saying of those
who said: Surely Allah is
poor and we are rich. I will record what they say, and their killing
the prophets unjustly, and I will say: Taste the chastisement of
burning.
No They will bear their own burdens, and (other)
burdens along with their own, and on the Day of Judgments they will be
called to account for their falsehoods.
Does Man have free will?No No soul can believe, except by the will of
Allah, and He will place
doubt (or obscurity) on those who will not understand.
Yes When was our fate written? Before Allah created the heavens and the Earth No misfortune can happen on earth or in your
souls but is recorded in a
decree before We bring it into existence:
On laylatul qadr Who takes peoples souls? One angel Say: "The Angel of Death, put in charge of
you, will (duly) take your
souls: then shall ye be brought back to your Lord."
Many angels But how (will it be) when the angels take
their souls at death, and
smite their faces and their backs?
Allah It is Allah that takes the souls (of men) at
death; and those that die
not (He takes) during their sleep: those on whom He has passed the
decree of death, He keeps back (from returning to life), but the rest
He sends (to their bodies) for a term appointed verily in this are
Signs for those who reflect.
MuslimsWho was the first Muslim?Muhammed Say: "Shall I take for my protector any other
than
Allah, the Maker of the heavens and the earth? And He it is that
feedeth but is not fed." Say: "Nay! but I am commanded to be the first
of those who bow to Allah (in Islam), and be not thou of the company of
those who join gods with Allah."
No partner hath He: this am I commanded, and
I am the first of those who bow to His will.
Moses When Moses came to the place appointed by
Us, and
his Lord addressed him, He said: "O my Lord! show (Thyself) to me, that
I may look upon thee." Allah said: "By no means canst thou see Me
(direct); But look upon the mount; if it abide in its place, then shalt
thou see Me." When his Lord manifested His glory on the Mount, He made
it as dust. And Moses fell down in a swoon. When he recovered his
senses he said: "Glory be to Thee! to Thee I turn in repentance, and I
am the first to believe."
Abraham And this was the legacy that Abraham left to
his
sons, and so did Jacob; "Oh my sons! Allah hath chosen the Faith for
you; then die not except in the Faith of Islam."
Abraham was not a Jew nor yet a Christian;
but he
was true in Faith, and bowed his will to Allah's (Which is Islam), and
he joined not gods with Allah.
Adam Allah did choose Adam and Noah, the family of
Abraham, and the family
of 'Imran above all people,-
Egyptians Lo! we ardently hope that our Lord will
forgive us our sins because we
are the first of the believers
Jesus and his disciples When Jesus found Unbelief on their part He
said:
"Who will be My helpers to (the work of) Allah?" Said the disciples:
"We are Allah's helpers: We believe in Allah, and do thou bear witness
that we are Muslims.
"And behold! I inspired the disciples to have
faith
in Me and Mine Messenger: they said, 'We have faith, and do thou bear
witness that we bow to Allah as Muslims'".
Is Allah the only Wali?Yes Unto Allah belongeth the dominion of the
heavens and the earth. He
giveth life and He taketh it. Except for Him ye have no protector nor
helper.
No Your (real) friends are (no less than) Allah,
His Messenger, and the
(fellowship of) believers,- those who establish regular prayers and
regular charity, and they bow down humbly (in worship).
Does a Muslim have only one mother?Yes If any men among you divorce their wives by
Zihar (calling them
mothers), they cannot be their mothers: None can be their mothers
except those who gave them birth. And in fact they use words (both)
iniquitous and false: but truly Allah is one that blots out (sins), and
forgives (again and again).
No (plural mothers) Forbidden unto you are your mothers, and your
daughters, and your
sisters, and your father's sisters, and your mother's sisters, and your
brother's daughters and your sister's daughters, and your
foster-mothers, and your foster-sisters, and your mothers-in-law, and
your step-daughters who are under your protection (born) of your women
unto whom ye have gone in - but if ye have not gone in unto them, then
it is no sin for you (to marry their daughters) - and the wives of your
sons who (spring) from your own loins. And (it is forbidden unto you)
that ye should have two sisters together, except what hath already
happened (of that nature) in the past. Lo! Allah is ever Forgiving,
Merciful.
No The Prophet is closer to the Believers than
their own selves, and his
wives are their mothers. Blood-relations among each other have closer
personal ties, in the Decree of Allah. Than (the Brotherhood of)
Believers and Muhajirs: nevertheless do ye what is just to your closest
friends: such is the writing in the Decree (of Allah).
Strength of believersOne Muslim is more powerful than 10 non-Muslims If there be of you twenty steadfast they
shall overcome two hundred,
and if there be of you a hundred (steadfast) they shall overcome a
thousand of those who disbelieve
One Muslim can overcome two non-Muslims So if there be of you a steadfast hundred
they
shall overcome two hundred, and if there be of you a thousand
(steadfast) they shall overcome two thousand by permission of Allah.
Can you eat non-halal meat?Yes This day are (all) things good and pure made
lawful unto you. The food
of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto
them. (Lawful unto you in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are
believers, but chaste women among the People of the Book, revealed
before your time,- when ye give them their due dowers, and desire
chastity, not lewdness, nor secret intrigues if any one rejects faith,
fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of
those who have lost (all spiritual good).
No So eat of (meats) on which Allah's name hath
been pronounced, if ye
have faith in His signs.
Is jewellery okay?Yes O Children of Adam! wear your beautiful
apparel at every time and place
of prayer: eat and drink: But waste not by excess, for Allah loveth not
the wasters.
It is He Who has made the sea subject, that
ye may eat thereof flesh
that is fresh and tender, and that ye may extract therefrom ornaments
to wear; and thou seest the ships therein
No Qarun was doubtless, of the people of Moses;
but he acted insolently
towards them: such were the treasures We had bestowed on him that their
very keys would have been a burden to a body of strong men, behold, his
people said to him: "Exult not, for Allah loveth not those who exult
(in riches).
Is an adopted child real family? No Allah has not made for any man two hearts in his (one) body: nor has He made your wives whom ye divorce by Zihar your mothers: nor has He made your adopted sons your sons. Such is (only) your (manner of) speech by your mouths. But Allah tells (you) the Truth, and He shows the (right) Way. but here a foster mother is family! But a foster mother is real family Forbidden unto you are your mothers, and your
daughters, and your
sisters, and your father's sisters, and your mother's sisters, and your
brother's daughters and your sister's daughters, and your
foster-mothers, and your foster-sisters, and your mothers-in-law, and
your step-daughters who are under your protection (born) of your women
unto whom ye have gone in - but if ye have not gone in unto them, then
it is no sin for you (to marry their daughters) - and the wives of your
sons who (spring) from your own loins. And (it is forbidden unto you)
that ye should have two sisters together, except what hath already
happened (of that nature) in the past. Lo! Allah is ever Forgiving,
Merciful.

pure wine sealed.
Paradise has rivers of Alcohol A similitude of the Garden which those who
keep their duty (to Allah)
are promised: Therein are rivers of water unpolluted ... and rivers of
wine delicious to the drinkers. .
Yes And from the fruit of the date-palm and the
vine, ye get out wholesome
drink and food: behold, in this also is a sign for those who are wise
Yes, as long as you're not praying O ye who believe! Draw not near unto prayer
when ye are drunken, till
ye know that which ye utter, nor when ye are polluted, save when
journeying upon the road, till ye have bathed. And if ye be ill, or on
a journey, or one of you cometh from the closet, or ye have touched
women, and ye find not water, then go to high clean soil and rub your
faces and your hands (therewith). Lo! Allah is Benign, Forgiving.
Quite bad O ye who believe! Strong drink and games of
chance and idols and
divining arrows are only an infamy of Satan's handiwork. Leave it aside
in order that ye may succeed.
Huge sin They question thee about strong drink and
games of chance. Say: In both
is great sin, and (some) utility for men; but the sin of them is
greater than their usefulness. And they ask thee what they ought to
spend. Say: that which is superfluous. Thus Allah maketh plain to you
(His) revelations, that haply ye may reflect
Alcohol is from Satan O you who believe! Strong drink and games of
chance and idols and
divine arrows are only an infamy of Satan's handiwork. Leave it aside
that you may succeed
How many sacred months are there?Four The number of months in the sight of Allah is
twelve (in a year)- so
ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth; of them
four are sacred: that is the straight usage. So wrong not yourselves
therein, and fight the Pagans all together as they fight you all
together. But know that Allah is with those who restrain themselves.
One O ye who believe! Violate not the sanctity of
the symbols of Allah, nor
of the sacred month, nor of the animals brought for sacrifice, nor the
garlands that mark out such animals, nor the people resorting to the
sacred house, seeking of the bounty and good pleasure of their Lord.
But when ye are clear of the sacred precincts and of pilgrim garb, ye
may hunt and let not the hatred of some people in (once) shutting you
out of the Sacred Mosque lead you to transgression (and hostility on
your part). Help ye one another in righteousness and piety, but help ye
not one another in sin and rancour: fear Allah: for Allah is strict in
punishment.
Non-MuslimsWhat does Allah do with apostates?Punishes them But if any turn away and reject Allah,- Allah
will punish him with a
mighty Punishment,

for you to follow,- for
those whose hope is in Allah and in the Last Day. But if any turn away,
truly Allah is Free of all Wants, Worthy of all Praise.
Is there compulsion in Islam? No There is no compulsion in religion. The right
direction is henceforth
distinct from error. And he who rejecteth false deities and believeth
in Allah hath grasped a firm handhold which will never break. Allah is
Hearer, Knower.
No Yes I will cast terror into the hearts of those
who disbelieve. Therefore
strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them
Yes, unless the disbelievers pay you. Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the
last day, nor hold that
which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger [Muhammad], nor
acknowledge the religion of truth [Islam], from among the people of the
book [Jews and Christians] until they pay the Jezia [special taxes paid
by the Jews and
Will Allah reward the good deeds of non-Muslims?No It is not for such as join gods with Allah,
to visit or maintain the
mosques of Allah while they witness against their own souls to
infidelity. The works of such bear no fruit: In Fire shall they dwell.
Yes Who sends disbelievers astray?Allah Of them there are some who (pretend to)
listen to thee; but We have
thrown veils on their hearts, So they understand it not, and deafness
in their ears; if they saw every one of the signs, not they will
believe in them; in so much that when they come to thee, they (but)
dispute with thee; the Unbelievers say: "These are nothing but tales of
the ancients."
Allah Allah Satan (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast
put me in the wrong, I will
make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all
in the wrong
Satan Satan Themselves Hath not the story reached them of those
before them?- the People of
Noah, and 'Ad, and Thamud; the People of Abraham, the men of Midian,
and the cities overthrown. To them came their messengers with clear
signs. It is not Allah Who wrongs them, but they wrong their own souls.
Themselves Themselves For whom is salvation? For all pious theists Those who believe (in the Qur'an), those who
follow the Jewish
(scriptures), and the Sabians and the Christians,- any who believe in
Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness,- on them shall be no
fear, nor shall they grieve.
For all pious theists Verily! Those who believe and those who are
Jews and Christians, and
Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and do righteous
good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no
fear, nor shall they grieve.
For Muslims only If anyone desires a religion other than Islam
(submission to Allah),
never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in
the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual good).
For Muslims only Truly, the religion with Allah is Islam.
Those who were given the
Scripture (Jews and Christians) did not differ except, out of mutual
jealousy, after knowledge had come to them. And whoever disbelieves in
the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of
Allah, then surely, Allah is Swift in calling to account..
How to treat those who do not believe in an afterlifeBe kind Tell those who believe, to forgive those who
do not look forward to the
Days of Allah: It is for Him to recompense (for good or ill) each
People according to what they have earned.
Be kind The worshipers of the Most Gracious are those
who tread the earth
gently, and when the ignorant speak to them, they only utter peace
Attack them Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the
Last Day, nor hold that
forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor
acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of
the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel
themselves subdued.
What to do with infidel family?Stay with family And if they contend with you that you should
associate with Me what you
have no knowledge of, do not obey them, and keep company with them in
this world kindly, and follow the way of him who turns to Me, then to
Me is your return, then will I inform you of what you did
Dont stay with family O ye who believe! Choose not your fathers
nor your
brethren for friends if they take pleasure in disbelief rather than
faith. Whoso of you taketh them for friends, such are wrong-doers.
People of the BookShould Muslims have Christians for friends?Yes Strongest among men in enmity to the
believers wilt thou find the Jews
and Pagans; and nearest among them in love to the believers wilt thou
find those who say, "We are Christians": because amongst these are men
devoted to learning and men who have renounced the world, and they are
not arrogant.
Yes We sent after them Jesus the son of Mary, and
bestowed on him the
Gospel; and we ordained in the hearts of those who followed him
compassion and mercy.
No O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the
Christians for friends.
They are friends one to another. He among you who taketh them for
friends is (one) of them. Lo! Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.
Christians and Jews hate or love each other?Hate each other The Jews say: "Allah's hand is tied up." Be
their hands tied up and be
they accursed for the (blasphemy) they utter.
And Allah loveth not those who do
mischief.
Love each other O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the
Christians for your friends
and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And
he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily
Allah guideth not a people unjust.
Can you marry non-Muslims?No Do not marry unbelieving women (idolaters),
until they believe: A slave
woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she
allures you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe:
A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he
allures you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the Fire. But Allah
beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and
makes His Signs clear to mankind: That they may celebrate His praise.
Yes (even though Qur'an 9;29 calls Christians idolaters) This day are (all) good things made lawful
for you. The food of those
who have received the Scripture is lawful for you, and your food is
lawful for them. And so are the virtuous women of the believers and the
virtuous women of those who received the Scripture before you (lawful
for you) when ye give them their marriage portions and live with them
in honour, not in fornication, nor taking them as secret concubines.
Whoso denieth the faith, his work is vain and he will be among the
losers in the Hereafter.
Do Muslims and non-Muslim theists worship the same god?No Yes And dispute ye not with the People of the
Book, except with means
better (than mere disputation), unless it be with those of them who
inflict wrong (and injury): but say, "We believe in the revelation
which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our Allah
and your Allah is one; and it is to Him we bow (in Islam)."

who
follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,-
any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness,

shall they grieve.
Yes Those who believe (in the Qur'an), those who
follow
the Jewish (scriptures), and the Sabians and the Christians,- any who
believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness,- on them
shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
No Truly, the religion with Allah is Islam.
Those who
were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) did not differ except,
out of mutual jealousy, after knowledge had come to them. And whoever
disbelieves in the Ayah (proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations,
etc.) of Allah, then surely, Allah is Swift in calling to account.
No If anyone desires a religion other than Islam
(submission to Allah), never will it be accepted of him; and in the
Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual
good).
ProphetsWho does Allah send as prophets?Only single men from amongst a community Nor did We send before thee (as messengers)
any but men, whom we did
inspire,- (men) living in human habitations. Do they not travel through
the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? But the home
of the hereafter is best, for those who do right. Will ye not then
understand?
Also angels Allah chooses messengers from angels and from
men for Allah is He Who
hears and sees (all things).
Also a beast And when the Word is fulfilled against them
(the unjust), we shall
produce from the earth a beast to (face) them: He will speak to them,
for that mankind did not believe with assurance in Our Signs
Entire tribes We have sent thee inspiration, as We sent it
to Noah and the Messengers
after him: we sent inspiration to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob and the
tribes, to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and solomon, and to David We
gave the Psalms
The earth itself And the earth brings forth her burdens, And
man says: What has befallen
her? On that day she shall tell her news, Because your Lord had
inspired her.
Are all Islamic prophets equal?Yes The Messenger believeth in what hath been
revealed to him from his
Lord, as do the men of faith. Each one (of them) believeth in Allah,
His angels, His books, and His messengers. We make no distinction
between any of His messengers. And they say: "We hear, and we obey: (We
seek) Thy forgiveness, our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all
journeys."
No Those messengers We endowed with gifts, some
above others: To one of
them Allah spoke; others He raised to degrees (of honour); to Jesus the
son of Mary We gave clear (Signs), and strengthened him with the holy
spirit. If Allah had so willed, succeeding generations would not have
fought among each other, after clear (Signs) had come to them, but they
(chose) to wrangle, some believing and others rejecting. If Allah had
so willed, they would not have fought each other; but Allah Fulfilleth
His plan.
Will Muhammad go to Heaven?Yes, he will be forgiven of all sins We have given thee (O Muhammad) a clear victory. That Allah may forgive thee of thy sin that which is past and that which is to come. He is not sure Say: "I am no bringer of new-fangled doctrine
among the messengers, nor
do I know what will be done with me or with you.
How did Abraham confront the idolaters?Destroys idols So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the
biggest of them, that they

those
whom they worshipped besides Allah, We bestowed on him Isaac and Jacob,
and each one of them We made a prophet
Can messengers perform miracles? No And they say: "Why are not miracles sent down
to him from his Lord?
Say: "The signs are only with Allah , and I am only a plain warner."
Yes We have made some of these apostles to excel
the others; among them are
they to whom Allah spoke, and some of them He exalted by (many degrees
of) rank; and We gave clear miracles to Isa son of Marium, and
strengthened him with the holy spirit.
Are all messengers descended from Abraham?Yes No And verily We have raised among every people a messenger, (proclaiming): Serve Allah and shun false gods. Was Abraham an idolator? No And they say, 'Be Jews or Christians and you
shall be guided.' Say
thou: 'Nay, rather the creed of Abraham, a man of pure faith; he was no
idolater.

star: He said: "This is my
Lord." But when it set, He said: "I love not those that set."
Was Noah banished or exiled by his people?Yes Before them the People of Noah rejected
(their messenger): they
rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was
driven out.
No, he regularly spoke to them Forthwith he (starts) constructing the Ark:
Every time that the chiefs
of his people passed by him, they threw ridicule on him. He said: "If
ye ridicule us now, we (in our turn) can look down on you with ridicule
likewise!
Did Noah's son survive the great flood?Yes Remember) Noah, when he cried (to Us)
aforetime: We listened to his
(prayer) and delivered him and his family from great distress.
Yes No The son replied: "I will betake myself to
some mountain: it will save
me from the water." Noah said: "This day nothing can save, from the
command of Allah, any but those on whom He hath mercy! "And the waves

the slaves that their
right hands possess, for then they are not blameworthy,
Can you commit incest? There's a double standard with Allah allowing the children of Adam to reproduce but disallowing it for later generations. Here incest is forbidden Prohibited to you (For marriage) are:- Your
mothers, daughters, sisters; father's sisters, Mother's sisters;
brother's daughters, sister's daughters; foster-mothers (Who gave you
suck), foster-sisters; your wives' mothers; your step-daughters under
your guardianship, born of your wives to whom ye have gone in,- no
prohibition if ye have not gone in;- (Those who have been) wives of
your sons proceeding from your loins; and two sisters in wedlock at one
and the same time, except for what is past; for Allah is Oft-forgiving,
Most Merciful;-
Here Allah ordains mankind descends from Adam And (remember) when thy Lord brought forth
from
the Children of Adam, from their reins, their seed, and made them

verily. We testify. (That was) lest ye should say at the Day of
Resurrection: Lo! of this we were unaware;

justly with the orphans,
Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that
ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a
captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to
prevent you from doing injustice.
No Ye will not be able to deal equally between
(your) wives, however much
ye wish (to do so). But turn not altogether away (from one), leaving
her as in suspense. If ye do good and keep from evil, lo! Allah is ever

answered them: "Never will I
suffer to be lost the work of any of you, be he male or female: Ye are
members, one of another: Those who have left their homes, or been
driven out therefrom, or suffered harm in My Cause, or fought or been
slain,- verily, I will blot out from them their iniquities, and admit
them into Gardens with rivers flowing beneath;- A reward from the
presence of Allah, and from His presence is the best of rewards."
No Men have authority over women because God
has made the one superior to the other,
and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are
obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them.
As for those whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to
beds apart and beat them. Then if they obey you, take no further action
against them. Surely God is most high.
No Women who are divorced shall wait, keeping
themselves apart, three (monthly) courses. And it is not lawful for
them that they should conceal that which Allah hath created in their
wombs if they are believers in Allah and the Last Day. And their
husbands would do better to take them back in that case if they desire
a reconciliation. And they (women) have rights similar to those (of
men) over them in kindness, and men are a degree above them.
Allah is Mighty, Wise.
Can slander of chaste women be forgiven?Yes Unless they repent thereafter and mend (their

Qur'anWho brought the revelation to Muhammad?Holy spirit Say, the Holy Spirit has brought the
revelation from thy Lord in Truth,
in order to strengthen those who believe, and as a Guide and Glad
Tidings to Muslims
Angel jibreel Say (O Muhammad, to mankind): Who is an enemy
to Gabriel! For he it is
who hath revealed (this Scripture) to thy heart by Allah's leave,
confirming that which was (revealed) before it, and a guidance and glad
tidings to believers;
Who is the intended audience of the revelation?Arabs Had We sent this as a Qur'an (in the language) other than Arabic, they would have said: "Why are not its verses explained in detail? What! (a Book) not in Arabic and (a Messenger an Arab?" All mankind O mankind! Now hath a proof from your Lord come unto you, and We have sent down unto you a clear light; Illiterate people It is He Who has sent amongst the Unlettered a messenger from among themselves, to rehearse to them His Signs, to sanctify them, and to instruct them in Scripture and Wisdom,- How was the Qur'an revealed?Night Month And (it is) a Quran which we have divided
(into parts), in order that you might recite it to men at intervals. And
we have revealed it by stages
And those who disbelieve say: "Why is not the
Quran
revealed to him all at once?" thus, that you may strengthen your heart
thereby. And we have revealed it to you gradually, in stages.
Clarity of the Qur'an?Qur'an is clear to understand (This is) a Book, whose verses are made
decisive, then are they made
plain, from the Wise, All-aware:
Not clear He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book:
In it are verses basic or
fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation of the
Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity
follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and
searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings
except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We
believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord:" and none will
grasp the Message except men of understanding.
Nobody's sure what the following verse means Is the Qur'an in pure Arabic?Yes We know indeed that they say, "It is a man

Arabic, pure and clear. .
No, Qistas (foreign word) Give full measure when ye measure, and weigh
with a balance that is
straight: that is the most fitting and the most advantageous in the
final determination
No, al-sijjil (foreign word) And We turned (the cities) upside down, and
rained down on them
brimstones hard as baked clay
Abrogation; does Allah change his words? No The word of thy Lord doth find its fulfilment
in truth and in justice:
None can change His words: for He is the one who heareth and knoweth
all.
No For them are glad tidings, in the life of the
present and in the
Hereafter; no change can there be in the words of Allah. This is indeed
the supreme felicity.
Yes None of Our revelations do We abrogate or
cause to be forgotten, but We
substitute something better or similar: Knowest thou not that Allah
Hath power over all things?
Yes When We substitute one revelation for
another,- and Allah knows best
what He reveals (in stages),- they say, "Thou art but a forger": but
most of them understand not.
MiscellaneousWhen did Pharaoh command killing of baby boys? When moses was a prophet And when he brought them the Truth from Our
presence, they said: Slay
the sons of those who believe with him, and spare their women. But the
plot of disbelievers is in naught but error.
When moses was an infant Throw (the child) into the chest, and throw
(the chest) into the river:
the river will cast him up on the bank, and he will be taken up by one
who is an enemy to Me and an enemy to him': But I cast (the garment of)
love over thee from Me: and (this) in order that thou mayest be reared
under Mine eye.
How many Thamud killed the she-camel?One Several Did Pagan Meccans get revelation before Muhammad? No But We had not given them Books which they
could study, nor sent
messengers to them before thee as Warners.
Yes Was the Pharaoh killed? No We took the Children of Israel across the
sea:
Pharaoh and his hosts followed them in insolence and spite. At length,
when overwhelmed with the flood, he said: "I believe that there is no
god except Him Whom the Children of Israel believe in: I am of those
who submit (to Allah in Islam)."
(It was said to him): "Ah now!- But a little
while before, wast thou in rebellion!-and thou didst mischief (and
violence)!

How long did it take to destroy Aad tribe? One day Several days So We sent against them a furious Wind

We might give them a taste of a Penalty of humiliation in this life;

Contradictions in the Qur'anThe purpose of this pageWe do not reject the Qur'an because of this list of contradictions. There are many reasons of much more substantial nature why we do not believe the Qur'an to be from the one true God. You will find those discussed on other pages of this web site (e.g. [1], [2]). This page is not intended as an attack on the Qur'an. Sadly, many Muslims have become unnecessarily aggravated because they did not understand the purpose of this collection. It is my experience that many Muslims try to evade a discussion of the real issues regarding the truth of Islam and Christianity by pushing "101 Bible Contradictions" (or similar compilations) into our face. Muslim web sites abound in articles and collections attacking the integrity of the Bible by means of contradiction lists. Many have the attitude that "because the Bible is riddled with contradictions, errors, absurdities and problems, there is no need for me to make the effort to understand it." With such an attitude no real dialog can develop. Our goal is to get beyond superficial word games to discussing the relevant core issues over which we differ. It has mostly proven useless to explain one set of contradictions because there is always another one that can be added to the list. It is important to be able to give explanations of the difficult Biblical passages including those that seem contradictory. We are working hard to provide good answers to honest questions in our Bible Commentary and the section on alleged Bible contradictions. However, most Muslims' rejection of the Bible is not based on such contradiction lists. For most Muslims this rejection is an integral part of their faith long before they have ever seen any such "contradictions". These lists are usually only used as a convenient means to justify a rejection of the Bible which would otherwise be very difficult to explain rationally. Counteracting this evasive or even hostile attitude is the purpose of this page. If both sides can come to the recognition that their own book, the scripture which is the basis of their faith, be it the Bible or the Qur'an, contains some very difficult passages which might even look like plain errors or logical contradictions (depending on the level of hostility employed when looking at it), then we might be more forgiving towards the other and be motivated to not judge prematurely but to make a serious effort to understand each of the books and the essential teachings of the respective faith in a deeper way before we come to a decision why we do or do not believe them. Debates about contradictions are rarely fruitful because people tend to insist reading the texts of the opponent in the most rigid and literal manner to make it look bad, while being very lenient with their own book, allowing extra assumptions, metaphorical interpretations and other means to somehow explain how this can be understood without being a contradiction. Some Muslims have proven by their provided responses that they possess a quite ingenious and creative mind. It is for our readers to decide whether or not the provided answers are fully satisfactory for them. It is not for me to make that decision on their behalf. This is one reason that I will not remove even those contradictions that I find answered to my personal satisfaction. A second reason is that keeping the effectively answered contradictions on this site will help Muslims and Christians who don't know the possible responses to contradictions they encountered elsewhere, to find them here. As such this page can be a valuable resource for both Christians and Muslims, similar to various Christian pages about seeming Bible contradictions. To compare like with like, I will make the strongest possible case for something being contradictory and wrong, similar to the Muslim attacks on the Bible. The difference to Muslim web sites is that we give the right of response. It is our prayer that even this page may help Muslims and Christians to make progress in mutual understanding, to come to a proper perspective regarding the "contradictions issue" and to a realization what the real issues are which we need to concentrate on in our dialogs and debates. Having clarified the purpose of this page we now challenge our Muslim friends with the following compilation to rethink their approach for determining the truth of scripture. IntroductionBecause the Bible seemingly contains errors therefore the Bible is not God's word. The Qur'an on the other hand is free from discrepancies and this is proof that the Qur'an is from God since Sura 4:82 states: Do they not ponder on the Qur'an? See also this Muslim presentation: The no-contradiction challenge of the Qur'an. But reality is not as simple as many would want us
believe.
Further: Contradictions between Muslim Traditions and the Qur'an For your convenience: Download all contradictions in a .zip format. If you are able to resolve to your own satisfaction the Qur'an problems presented here, then probably you will be able to understand that Christians can with a similar effort explain to their own satisfaction most of the difficulties in the Bible. Try to be fair and evaluate the Bible with an equal standard as the Qur'an. Don't judge it with harsher criteria than you are ready to use when reading the Qur'an. Even better, read the Bible to understand its meaning and message and not to find fault with it on such superficial levels. Think about this: Errors in the Bible prove that the Qur'an is not from God. To several of the presented problems Muslim responses are available on our site. Links to the individual responses will be given usually at the bottom of the pages dealing with the specific issue. If you want to contribute your personal response to one of the topics below I need to insist that you do this in this format also outlining my policy on linking or displaying Muslim responses, as well as the issue of using English translations of the Qur'an. But some think my offer is dishonest. There are further Muslim responses to this summary page available. Important notice: This is an overview page which only gives short summaries of the observed contradictions. Before you respond to any of them, first click on the link to the detailed discussion of the individual contradiction! Internal Contradictions:

Science:
The Qur'an in Contradiction to the Earlier Revelations: Ultimately, the strongest, most serious problem of the Qur'an is that it affirms the scriptures of the Jews and the Christians as authentic and true revelation from God (cf. what the Qur'an says about the Bible), while radically denying central aspects of their message, e.g. the core themes of sacrifice and atonement in the Torah, the crucifixion of Jesus, the deity of Jesus and even the mere messianic title "Son of God" for Jesus, the very nature of God, the fall and the sinfulness of man (*, *), necessity and means of salvation, etc. For this reason Muslims had to invent the unwarranted theory of corruption of the earlier scriptures, even against the clear testimony of the Qur'an itself. In the following some smaller discrepancies between the Qur'an and the scriptures it supposedly confirms.
Other contradictions in comparison to the Bible:
Do they not ponder on the Qur'an? Since this verse is claiming that there is "no contradiction / discrepancy" in the Qur'an, therefore itself has to be part of the list of contradictions because it contradicts the existence of the above listed contradictions. Or would you say because it says "much" and the above aren't "enough of them" yet to qualify for "much", all is actually fine? If you want to use these contradictions when talking to your Muslim friends, then read this. A book on this topic, listing several hundred difficult issues in the Qur'an is:

If you have browsed the contradictions page and have the feeling this is a really mean, disrespectful and distasteful attack on the Qur'an, ... and Muslims would never do things like that to the Bible ... maybe you would like to have a look around some Muslim sites:
